Shhhhhhinkansen

Wanna get around Japan quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively?  Get on board the high speed train called the Shinkansen.  We visited 7 places in two weeks and this was the best mode of transportation we could've asked for.

A Night at the Temple

Often when people think of Japan they think of anime and high-tech everything.  What they may not imagine is the quiet spiritual side to this diverse country. In classic Stuff and Places fashion, I wanted to experience it ALL; the big, the small and everything in between.  This led us to Mount Koya, one of the most sacred places for Buddhists in Japan.

Are there fish in the Fish River Canyon?

Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa, so when I tell you that you'll be blown away by its vastness it's not an exaggeration.  The river flows and then it dries up again, revealing a few drought-resistant plants.  From the observation point it's hard to imagine anything survivng in this arid climate.  The sun is hot and the dirt crumbles under your feet as you head out along the edge of the canyon.

The Deadvlei

The Deadvlei is probably the most iconic image of Namibia.  You might recognize the photo even if you never knew where it was taken.  Why do tourists flock to look at trees that have long since died?  Because it's haunting and spectacular.

Robben Island

I will not cry! I will not cry! I will not cry!..... I cried.

I'm not the most emotionally expressive person you've ever met. To the outside world I often teeter on the side of robot, so imagine my surprise as my eyes began to water and a tear, then two, then too many to count ran down my cheek.  Robben Island moved me like no place had before.

A Mad Max moment in the Swakopmund desert

I'm a badass.  Well, at least that's what I told myself as I set off to go quad biking on an extremely windy day in the Namib desert where Mad Max was filmed.   I didn't even let the hair net and helmet combo detract from my new found hardcore self image.  Maybe that's why Charlize shaved her head? Hair nets are not flattering or particularly "gangster".

Muizenburg

It was my last day in Cape Town and the weather was perfect for a little beach getaway, so I hopped in the car with some girls I'd just met at breakfast and off we went to Muizenberg for some surf, sun and sand.
