I went to Black Friday and survived

Before last year I had never done one of these cross border shopping extravaganza trips and never really had the desire to road trip solely for the purpose of consumerism either.  Well, that all changed when one of my friends suggested that we embark on a sleepless all-night shopping extravaganza.  And if you've been reading this blog, you've probably already figured out that I don't just dip my toe into an experience, I cannonball. So an all-night cross-border shopping adventure seemed like the perfect introduction to outlet shopping in the U.S. of A.

A date with the TSO

That's the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in case you didn't know.

Going to the symphony was one of those things that I had always said I wanted to do, but had never actually gotten around to doing.  Well, that all changed yesterday as I had my vary first symphonic experience.

Well, that's a horse of a different colour

A horse, a tiger, a flower, a building, anything can be any colour you want it to be when you're painting it yourself.  Maybe that's an idea that excites you or maybe that's an idea that terrifies you or maybe you're not sure because you've never actually thought about painting something yourself.  If you think you might like to give it a non-committal whirl, I've got just the place for you.

No sleep 'til Brooklyn

On this trip we decided to do something that none of us had done before: cross the bridge over into Brooklyn.  And we didn't just go to Brooklyn, we rode the N Train all the way to the end of the line.  Last stop, Coney Island.

Nuit Blanche

For the past eight years, I have looked forward to the first weekend in October, not just because the September birthday bonanza is over, but because I get to stay up all night, walk around the city and look at some really interesting pieces of art with hundreds of thousands of my closest friends.

David Bowie is....

David Bowie is something different for everyone.  For some he's that guy married to supermodel Iman, for others he's a symbol of freedom from gender roles, a great musician, Jareth the goblin king or maybe he's just that guy with the funny eye.

About 15 years ago my friend and I waited outside of MuchMusic headquarters to get a glimpse of David Bowie, so it's no surprise that we were thrilled to hear that a collection of David Bowie memorabilia was being shown at the AGO. The exhibit spans over two floors with over 300 items on display and uses different media to tell the story of David Bowie. Be sure to pick up the audio guide head set before you head in. The exhibit won't be the same with out it.  I mean what would an exhibit about a musician be without the music, right?

Oktoberfest ist wunderbar!

Unfortunately, not everyone can make the trip to Germany to celebrate Oktoberfest.  For those of us who have to stay in town, it's a little tricky to find an authentic party, but I did and I'm going to let you in on my little secret.

Whiskey 3 Way

It's the first ever Toronto Cocktail Week, and I'm excited because who doesn't love a good cocktail?  No one I know.  So, this is the perfect opportunity to grab a few of your best buds and head out for a proper drink.  You know, instead of drinking shitty vodka sodas in a equally shitty nightclub.  (secretly, I actually enjoy vodka sodas in a dance party).  Cocktail week is more about the experience of a well made cocktail and the craftsmanship that goes into it.

Bussing to NYC

It's hard to say no to spending a weekend with your best mates and equally as hard to say no to a weekend in New York, so just say yes.  You'll be glad that you did.
