New Year's Eve in the Galapagos

I was invited to celebrate "ano viejo" in the Galapagos.  It was a once in a lifetime adventure and an opportunity I couldn't pass up.  New Year's is one of those things that is celebrated globally with very different traditions and customs as you travel around.  On San Cristobal it's about spending time with your family, dancing the night away and burning all the negative energy from the previous year to encourage a fresh start for the year ahead.

A TOAST Roast for Christmas

One of my readers recently invited me to my vary first Burning Man themed TOAST Roast and gave me little more information than what was on the flyer.  Of course my curiosity got the best of me, so I braved Ice Storm 2013 and off I went to explore the world of Burning Man in my own backyard.

Winter Solstice in Kensington Market

We've all noticed the days getting shorter as we seem to be traveling to and from work in the dark these days.  It can be kind of a drag to feel like you're one of the mole people living in total darkness until you decide to celebrate the longest night of the year instead of sulking about missing the sun.  Every year the Kensington Market community gathers to make lanterns, parade through the market and have the whole event culminate in a drum circle around a giant bonfire.

It takes two to tango

Cafe Torotoni is a famous cafe in Buenos Aires known for having been the meeting place for thinkers and artists alike.  Now it's mostly known for the tour buses parked outside and the expensive lattes and tango shows, but if you look just to the left there's a door that leads to the World Tango Museum sponsored by the National Academy of Tango.  For 70 pesos (roughly 12 Cdn dollars), you get access to the Tango museum and a show with a live singer and four dancers.

A beach just for us

Ever see those photos of celebs on their private yachts going to some exclusive resort island for vacation and wonder how the heck the paparazzi got a photo of it? This adventure on the Island of San Cristobal in the Galapagos made me feel like one of these super fabulous celebs, except replace yacht with small motor boat and exclusive resort with beach that no one else happens to be on.
