A night out with Tapestry Opera

When was the last time you were at the opera?  If I were to ask this of my friends most of them would look at me with a blank stare because they had never even considered going to the opera.  And I would have to understand that because aside from that whole awesome red dress, diamond necklace, private jet thing in Pretty Woman, the opera doesn't really come up too often.

But did you know that Tapestry Opera has been in Toronto for 35 years? Tapestry's focus is "new opera".  The first Tapestry performance I attended had me sitting in a restaurant as the performers moved from one table to the next. I was now part of their performance.

A few years have gone by and I was happy to help Tapestry celebrate their 35th year at a fantastic event at the Gladstone Hotel. We were treated to some delicious snacks and tasty drinks as we listened to some new and old opera.  The performers managed to rise above the buzz of the fete and enchant us with their talent.  And then there was dancing.  Lots of dancing.

If you're thinking of giving the opera a try, Tapestry might be a good place to start.  It's a lot less intimidating than a traditional opera and very relatable.  If the shenanigans at the costume photo booth were any indication, it can also be really fun.

Congrats to Tapestry Opera on 35 years!
